Needle Point is an experimental typeface project that began with a quest to document unique typefaces in New York City. The turning point came unexpectedly, while grabbing a slice of pizza, I noticed a carpet printed with bold typography.
The contrast between the industrial Helvetica type and the texture of the carpet sparked my imagination. That moment connected the everyday textures and visual quirks of the city with the expressive possibilities of type design.
Translating this inspiration into the studio, I explored physical processes like painting dots with brushes on a Lego board to echo the tactile, worn patterns seen underfoot. The typeface evolved through multiple iterations, balancing analog play with digital refinement to preserve the handmade essence.
The result is a family of three expressive typeface variants: Thick, Mixed, and Thin, each capturing a sense of authenticity and local character.
